Merry Christmas All!

Yes indeed, a Merry Christmas from the Dragon Slayers to all and sundry that visit this here fine portal! Like us, no doubt many of you would rather play some wargames than wrap presents that nobody wants, drink babycham from a wine glass and leave out mince pies for a fat git (no, not Darren Dabell), but I'm afraid you can't. Part of the recurring joy of the Eve of Christmas is to put aside all the things you really want to do and instead practice your grinning monkey technique for people you won't see for another three hundred and sixty-five days, notwithstanding those relatives who descend upon you on your birthday of course. But enough of my humbugging (is that a word? If it is, it sounds a bit rude) - don't eat too many peanuts, drink babycham out of the bottle and make sure you use your whoopee cushion wisely whilst you're thinking about your latest devious combo. Oh, and remember that there's always origami...

A Slaughtering We Will Go

Here we are, all you Sheffield Slaughter entrants and curious passers-by - the Sheffield Slaughter 2005 Rules Pack is here and it's a mighty tome indeed! Once downloaded - you'll need WinZip to do so and Adobe Acrobat Reader to read it, of course - you'll find out exactly what is going to happen at next year's premier Warhammer Fantasy Battle tournament! Just to whet your appetite, there's a rather new (and very interesting) way of spicing up your games with scenario cards, a Royal Tournament duel, the usual Dragon Slayer Scoring System and a modified set of Treasure of the Dragon Slayers magic items! What are you waiting for? Download it!

That's not all, of course: a few of the boys attended the one-day Open War II mini tournament, held by those nice fellows the 1st Company Veterans (formerly known as the Warhammer World Veterans) just yesterday at Games Workshop HQ, and we've a bit of success to report! Relative newbie Chris Legg proved there's life after Skaven by winning the Fantasy event outright with Richard Paget's Daemonic Legion, who ironically used Chris' Skaven army... there were a couple more of us in the top ten too, so have a look at the Slayers section for all the usual updates!

If you've got to this point without downloading the Sheffield Slaughter 2005 Rules Pack, you're very strange. Get downloading! Oh, and if you have any problems or questions about these rules, please visit the Forums and ask!

November
November's just a memory now...

From November

A day off thanks to a visit to the dentist means an update for the Dragon Slayers and the Scrapbook for November, which includes some rather startling images from the GW UKGT Heat 3 and the WPS GT...

...that's not all though: the rules for the Sheffield Slaughter are undergoing final tweaking and should be ready for you by the weekend, so make sure you pop by if you're attending; and with the end of the year approaching rather more quickly than anyone expected the rules for next year's Winter Warhammer 2005 campaign won't be far behind! There's also the Christmas Gaming Day and Curry Night to look forward to, as well as the finals for the Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign, although we haven't decided when that will be yet.

It's all go here!

October's gone!

The WPS GT

Another tournament has just passed us by people, but we were obviously suffering a hangover from the GW UKGT Heat 3 last weekend - only six of us attended the WPS GT this year (one big reason being because it cost far too much for us locals) and we didn't fare too well, although Michael Biggs finished up in the top ten at seventh, so well done to him! As always, check out the Slayers section for everybody's updates.

Now then. It's been a little late in coming but the Scrapbook for October is here, with plenty of merriment to be had. It won't be long before next month's jollities crop up, too!

Oh, and I've finally got all those reserve entries up on the Sheffield Slaughter preview page - and there's plenty of them, too, so please don't send any more entries in folks. Now it's just a case of waiting for the rules, but don't worry, they'll be here fairly soon!

Pop back later on in the week, when there might just be a couple of reports from recent tournaments!

Heat The Third

It's yet another day after the weekend before, but this one was a bit special. Even though a couple of Dragon Slayers attended earlier heats we were out in force for the GW UKGT Heat 3 with thirteen of us attempting to qualify to add to the three that have already managed it - and thankfully pretty much everybody joined them! This is fantastic news in itself, but with three of us in the top ten and Rob Lane grabbing another third place we think it's been a pretty successful tournament for us lot!

So hats off to the guys that qualified - in descending order, Rob Lane, Andrew Chesney, John Dale, Adrian McWalter, Michael Biggs, Nathan Hoole, Chris Legg, Richard Paget, Darren Dabell, Tim Fisher and Martin Bunting - but commiserations to the two that didn't, the (slightly less dead than before) Rich Gedney and Craig Williams in his first tournament for us. Next time guys! As always, check out the Slayers section for updated pages.

Yes, before you start reaching for the happy pills, you read that right: Rich Gedney is in fact not dead, but it's such a long (albeit funny) story I won't bore you with the details here. Suffice to say it really doesn't matter how, because we're just glad he's still with us! Apologies must go to all who are as confused as we are.

Right - just time to tell you that the Sheffield Slaughter is still fully booked and the reserves list is getting fairly long, so please don't send any more entries in... you'll have to wait until 2006!

Sold Out!

That's it guys - the Sheffield Slaughter is now officially booked up, so if you haven't sent your Entry Form in yet, you're out of luck... although you can always get yourself on the reserve list in case there's a drop out!

For those who have entered, please note that the tournament rules will be available for download in the next month or so, as we're still finalising a few things. One thing's for sure though, it'll be different from last year. The Dragon Slayers - we never rest on our laurels!

Oh, and that's not to forget the Cardiff Crusade which was keenly contested down in South Wales last weekend - Rob Lane and Matt Otter made the trip down, with the former finishing up third and the latter fourth! As always, check out the Slayers section for changes!

The Scholey GT

That paragon of Dragon Slayer virtue Pete Scholey muttered the magic words "Scholey GT" some weeks back and lo! on a dreary Saturday in early October six other chinless wonders made their merry way to Chez Scholey to fight out the near-legendary Scholey GT - but this time with a difference. Safe in the knowledge that playing Warhammer until six o'clock in the morning is A Bad Thing, he held it during the day instead with the result that we all actually enjoyed ourselves. To share in that enjoyment, have a look at the Images and Results from that most eclectic of get-togethers!

Of course, the rest of us poor downtrodden Dragon Slayers have bigger fish to fry: the Sheffield Slaughter is already garnering entrants (although most of them are us lot, of course) so you'd better get downloading that Entry Form pretty quick methinks. Don't worry though - if you've already sent off your form you can check whether you're entered on the Sheffield Slaughter 2005 Preview page, as well as check a few other bits and pieces. What are you waiting for? There's only room for sixty of youse this year, so get entering!

And, of course, there's the usual Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign update. Some things never change...

Slaughter Time!

It's that time again my fellow hairy sweaty wargamers: the Sheffield Slaughter is officially open for business with the availability of the Entry Form for next year's premier Warhammer Fantasy Battle event, which will be held at the usual venue, the Davy Sports Club, on the 22nd/23rd of January! The bad news is that we've had to up the price by a fiver to ensure you get your three square meals but the good news is that the event will be better than ever - we've a few tricks up our sleeves for this one so make sure you can attend! Get downloading folks - but you will need WinZip and Adobe's Acrobat Reader, of course!

Some of the boys made it over the Pennines to that nice one-dayer known as the Macclesfield Manoeuvres last weekend too; top Dragon Slayer was Adam Hall who finished a creditable fourth with Matt Otter bringing up his behind in fifth, and Richard Paget managed another top ten finish in eighth: Michael Biggs was fourteenth but bringing up his rear was new lad Tim Fisher, an excellent fifteenth for him in his first tournament with Grimgor's 'Ardboyz! As always, have a look at all their individual pages in the Slayers section along with the updated Statistics page!

Last but most certainly not least, the Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign enjoyed a few games last week, so have a gander to check where you are on the leaderboard!

Matt's Magic Moment

Lots of things to tell you about with this update chaps and chapesses! Perennial young gun Matt Otter took the first ever Epic Armageddon GT by storm at the World Wargames in Derby this past weekend, for not only was he Chief er, Chief of the event he also popped up to grab third place with his mighty Space Marines - which will hopefully be featured in the Gallery rather soon! Michael Biggs was the other Dragon Slayer in attendance, finishing in ninth! As always, check out the Slayers pages for complete updates!

Yet another month has passed us by and with the dark nights drawing in it seems only fitting to let you have a peek at what we've been up to of late in the Scrapbook for September - but don't worry, no Motts were harmed in its production. Well, not a lot, anyway.

What's next on the agenda? Oh yes, the Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign is still bumbling along in its merry way, so get down to the club and get playing!

That's it: catch you next time ladies... and make sure you pop back soon, because there might just be a downloadable Sheffield Slaughter entry form!

Qualifying and Pillaging

We've grabbed ourselves a modicum of success these past couple of weekends as there has been a fair bit of activity on the tournament front, with the GW UKGT Heat 2 and Portsmouth Pillage competed in. First of all Jason Annett managed to qualify for the GW UKGT Finals at the GW UKGT Heat 2, finishing in twenty-third place, and Rob Lane took third spot at the Portsmouth Pillage this year which capped a striking performance from the boys that travelled down. Richard Paget was Best Olympian (whatever that means) and ninth, Matt Otter was sixteenth and Greg Chambers was eighteenth!

There's plenty of tournaments coming up too - the nice one-dayer that is the Macclesfield Manoeuvres, the annual WPS GT and the mighty task of more qualification at the GW UKGT Heat 3, at which most of us are going to attend... this tournament lark is getting to be a full-time job!

As well as all that, the Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign is hotting up with plenty of games being played - it's much better than last year, so get yourself playing before it's too late!

August's Gone

Yes indeedy folks, that's another month gone for the Dragon Slayers and although it's been pretty quiet recently there's still a few piccies to warm your cockles of an autumn evening. So why not curl up in front of your PC with a cuppa, an ice lolly and an eye for silliness in the Scrapbook for August - after all, what's passing ten minutes looking at something that isn't pornographic on the internet between friends?

Well, perhaps some of the images you will find in our Scrapbooks could be called pornographic, but not in the manner you'd expect I'm sure. Ahem.

Anyway: we've had a few weeks of this year's Summer Blood Bowl 2004 campaign at this moment in time, so if you're of a mind to check out a few results please do so... and if you're still uhmming and ahhing about playing, what's stopping you? Get down to the club!

Britcon Success

We had a nice time away in Manchester this weekend at the Britcon Olympiad - four of us made the journey up, and all of us finished in the top five! Rob Lane grabbed second place - behind the winner Keith Wilkinson by just one point - and Michael Biggs came in third (gaining some nice Olympics-style silver and bronze medals), with Matt Otter and Richard Paget fourth and fifth respectively! We'll take the moral victory though... both Rob Lane and Richard Paget beat Keith over the weekend, and we all had to play each other on the last day!

Tanelorn Triumph

You can tell I'm getting old: no more witty news titles, just obvious alliteration that a five-year-old could dream up. Anyway... if you didn't already know, we had a smidgeon of success down in London this past weekend, with Rob Lane grabbing first place at the Tanelorn MDPF with his Beasts of Chaos and whilst our other two stalwarts - Paul Scrivens-Smith and Matt Otter - didn't finish in the awards they did a sterling job nevertheless, coming in eleventh and thirteenth and representing the club with their usual aplomb. All in all, a great weekend was had by all three, even if it was rather hot and sticky!

As well as that, it's time to give a big Dragon Slayer welcome to our newest member: one Tim Fisher, who's been popping down on and off for the past six months and has finally decided to join the ranks, more fool him. He'll be a great asset to us all I'm sure, and one thing we know already - he's a fantastic painter! Just you wait until you see his 'Ardboyz!

The end of July is nearly upon us and that means the two campaigns that have been running over the past few months - Spring Necromunda 2004 and Spring Epic 2004 - are coming to a close. They haven't been as well supported as we'd have liked, I should think, but all the same we've got some good grounding in both games, which will stand us in good stead for the future... especially where Epic Armageddon is concerned!

So let's make the last week of both campaigns a good 'un, folks - get yourself down to the club on Tuesday!

The Joy of June

It's been a couple of weeks since the last update and that's really because there's not much happening at the moment on the Dragon Slayer front... but, thanks to a bit of time and the fantastic Weymouth Waaagh! this year, I can bring you last month's Scrapbook - and let me tell you, June is a month that those of us who made the journey down south will not forget in a hurry...

Big news for Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign fans though: last night saw the first game in over two months, so let's hope it'll get a few more people back into it before it all ends at the end of July. Yes, I know we said it would end in June, but we've decided to extend it a little because it felt... well, unfinished!

Some even bigger news for Sheffield Slaughter fans: it's booked for next year already, so mark the weekend of 22nd / 23rd January 2005 in your calendar right now!

Leggy's Legacy

A poor headline to be sure but the only one I could think of in my current state of mega tiredness, attributable to the fantastic weekend we've just had at the Weymouth Waaagh!, at which the boys done good yet again! This particular event has always been good to us and this, the last ever one to be held, is no exception: young Chris Legg proved himself an able addition to the ranks by coming in second, a personal best, and the somewhat gaseous Martin Bunting finished up in third with his Wood Elves. Richard Paget deserves a mention for also gaining a personal best, finishing in fifth with the Khorne Daemonic Legions, so well done to him! All in all, it was a weekend to remember... if only for the smell.

The Slayers pages holds all the updates as usual and check out the Spring Epic 2004 campaign page for another update. See you all tomorrow!

A Sterling Effort

Well we might not have won it outright, but the Dragon Slayers did pretty well at the Club Challenge last weekend! Overall we came third, which I think we can all agree is pretty good considering, and congratulations should go out to all our members who took part and especially Club Captain Martin Bunting, who led us immaculately throughout. Congratulations must go to the Northern Warlords, who won the event again, and to the Cold Steel Mercenaries, who ended up in second place. We'll be back next year!

There were some excellent pieces of individual success for us though, chief of which being John Dale's storming of the Epic Armageddon tournament with his (somewhat under-playtested) Tau army. Despite the cat-calls and nay-sayers it's still a pretty good achievement for the big fella, especially in light of the fact the club as a whole has only been playing the game for a couple of months. Adrian McWalter underlined our strengths in Epic Armageddon with a nice little Best Painted Army trophy for his Eldar!

In the Warhammer event two previous Dragon Slayers stole the glory: Dave Grant came first with his Lizardmen and Paul Corcoran was fourth with his Hordes of Chaos, so a hearty slap on the back must go to both... along with a muttering about why they left, of course. Still, we trained 'em! Greg Chambers was the only current Dragon Slayer who took home a trophy, winning a Best Sportsman award, with evergreen Martin Bunting finishing highest at seventh and Martin Quinn earning his highest placing yet at thirteenth with the Bretonnians.

As always, for all the other individual scores and statistics, take a gander at the Slayers pages and reflect on a nice little weekend that could have been so much better... if only!

Challenging

For those of you not on Planet Dragon Slayer, the Warhammer Players Society is holding its annual club v club ding-dong the Club Challenge this very weekend and we're determined to give it a real go! A good turn-out for us was essential of course and was never really in doubt: eighteen of us are attending, in two different systems, which is rather good I think!

In Epic Armageddon we are represented by Darren Dabell, John Dale, Adrian McWalter, Matt Otter and Pete Scholey; and in Warhammer we have Jason Annett, Michael Biggs, Martin Bunting (Club Captain), Greg Chambers, Andrew Chesney, Singe Frost, Rich Gedney, Adam Hall, Nathan Hoole, Rob Lane, Chris Legg, Richard Paget and Martin Quinn! What a fantastic turnout!

Before I sign off, just time to tell you that the Spring Epic 2004 campaign page has been updated with all the latest results, but what's happened to Spring Necromunda 2004 people? We haven't had any games for three weeks! I can only surmise we are in training for the aforementioned event this weekend...

April Shower

Last month was relatively busy for us lot with lots of events both at home and away, so it seems only fair to let you view the Scrapbook for April to show you exactly how cool and street the world of wargaming and the Dragon Slayers have really become. Or, failing that, just laugh at how stupid we all look.

Once you've done that it's time to get serious. The weekend after next is a big one for us as it holds the year's biggest event for the club as a whole: the Warhammer Players Society 's annual festival of wargaming known as the Club Challenge, at which I believe around sixteen of us are attending over three events, with Martin Bunting as Club Captain. I'm not too sure who's entered what yet but we'll be contesting the Warhammer, Epic Armageddon and Warhammer Ancients systems and hopefully we'll fare a little better this year than we did last year. Here's hoping folks!

Oh, and don't forget that the Spring Necromunda 2004 and Spring Epic 2004 campaigns are still going strong and if you've not joined in, why haven't you? Get yourself down to the club and get playing!

War is Opened

Just time to tell you about a cracking one-day tournament held yesterday at Warhammer World in Lenton: the Warhammer World Veterans' very own Open War I, at which the evergreen (and ever so slightly crusty) Rob Lane brought home the goods with a first place and best general, supported ably by the rest of the lads but especially up-and-coming Singe Frost, who finished in third. A good result all round I reckon, especially in light of the club's recent fascination for Epic Armageddon - we're still pretty good at Warhammer!

England and St George

April the 23rd means a lot to the Dragon Slayers, for today is a day to celebrate all things English without fear of being labelled jingoistic or somehow racist. No, not Shakespeare, for whilst he was indeed born on this day in 1564, I'm not talking about the immortal Bard - I'm talking about the very first Dragon Slayer. Yes, today is St George's Day, and whilst other people may ignore it in favour of celebrating other Saints Days, we certainly don't!

So during the day, have a quiet drink to the fella who slayed the dragon and have a peek at some of the links on the left. Us? We'll be celebrating St George's Day quite loudly, thank you very much!

Not Just Warhammer

Typical, innit? You wait for ages for some specialist games campaigns to get going and two come along at once. Still, we're not complaining - with Spring Necromunda 2004 continuing to gather players at a rate of knots the new game that's on everybody's mind has blasted its way onto the Dragon Slayers website, and about time too! The very cool Epic Armageddon (that uses very small model men) has been a revelation to many of our senior members and they're determined to infect the rest of us... so who are we to deny them?

To that end the Spring Epic 2004 campaign has been launched, as of last night, and you can see the first efforts of the boys right now. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a tactician, you can do a lot worse than join in... so get your very small model men out and get down to the club next week!

March stuff!

Not Only But Also

It's specialist games time for the Dragon Slayers, it seems... not only is the Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign gathering more players as the weeks go by - check out the latest results - but a good number of the lads have been playing Epic Armageddon lately, resulting in a little one-dayer at the weekend in the north-west known as Orange Trousers. Run by that stalwart of the Northern Warlords Max Horseman, the event resulted in a little success for the Dragon Slayers - young Matt Otter was second, Adrian McWalter was third and John Dale was Best Sportsman! Who says we're a Warhammer only club?

Well, we do, I suppose. Anyway, there's a few more bits and pieces for your attention - the Scrapbook for March is now open, and there's a couple of new Links, the most important of which being to the site of our brothers-in-arms the GIMPS (well, the Sheffield & Rotherham Wargamers...) - so go visit!

Next weekend there's what seems like the first Warhammer tournament for ages - the Open War, held at Warhammer World - and whilst it's only a one-dayer it'll be a cracking little event methinks. Good luck to everybody that's going!

Necromundan Delights

The Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign started with a bang last week - well, a satisfying thump, at least - with three games played and lots of nasty incident (including a rather amusing set of injuries resulting from a good shoeing of an unrepentant Pink Lady). It looks like this one's going to be a winner, so get your gang out for the lads and get yourself down to the club next week for a game!

Lots of other things to tell you about, too: the boys had a cracking time at the Conflict: Edinburgh even though the organisation was shocking, so take a look at their profiles to see how they did; but there's a few Slayers shenanigans to report on...

Yes, I'm very sad to say that two old members of the club have decided to move on to pastures new, leaving behind them many good memories and many horrific ones, especially when it comes to army lists. The young at heart double act of Paul Corcoran and Andy Smith are embarking on a secret business project and feel they cannot combine that and being full time Dragon Slayers - and who are we to gainsay them? We wish them every success for the future and, who knows, perhaps they may return to the fold one day!

All is not lost, however: two valued members may have left but we have a newbie to celebrate in the slightly spiky form of Adam Hall, a young fella-me-lad from the north-east who has already impressed us with his good humour and rather nasty armies. Here's to the future!

Winter Warhammer 2004
The final week!

We Have a Winner!

That's it folks! The Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign is over for another year, and the last round of games really sorted out the men from the boys... suffice to say we have a winner, and that winner is Andrew Chesney, who has been around the top throughout and has only lost one game out of the fourteen he played! Second place is held by Singe Frost after thirteen games but Rob Lane lost his last game and slipped down into fourth, leaving last year's winner Paul Corcoran on hand to steal third spot without actually playing for a while!

Well done to all the winners but also a big thanks to everybody who took part: ninety-four games of Warhammer has really helped to get the newbies playing the oldies and to create a fantastic spirit around the club. Here's hoping next year's campaign will be as successful as this one, and don't forget that next week is the prizegiving too, so make sure you get down or you'll miss out!

That's not all that's happened over the past couple of days - the Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign page is now up and begins next week, and the five of us that journeyed up to Conflict: Edinburgh have a tale or two to tell - but that can wait for now.

Let's just look back on an excellent three months of wargaming!

The penultimate results!

Penultimacy

I'm not sure if that's actually a word but I don't care: it sounds good, I like it and it adequately describes this here update for all you hairy people in Dragon Slayer land. Yes indeed, the penultimate night of the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign was had last night and it's really shaping up now. Young Andrew Chesney is currently holding the top spot thanks to a couple more wins but there's two oldies breathing down his neck, Singe Frost and Rob Lane... but it could all change next week as long as somebody turns up and batters each of them!

So there you have it - the destiny of this year's Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign is still in your hands, so get yourself down to't club next week... especially those who haven't quite made it onto the Leaderboard yet. If you're not on it, you don't get a prize! And yes, I am duty bound to mention (again) that the Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign will start in April...

Good luck to all those Dragon Slayers off to Conflict: Edinburgh this weekend too!

Two weeks left...

A bit of a do

Two dos to report on actually: the Liverpool Skirmish Warhammer 40,000 event and the Bristol Brawl Warhammer fantasy event, at which a few of our members attended, with rather a lot of success, it has to be said... although it also has to be said that the only players at the aforementioned Liverpool Skirmish were three Dragon Slayers and an ex-Dragon Slayer, namely our Paul Scrivens-Smith (who won it), Matt Otter (second and best painted army), Richard Paget (third) and Petar Kanuritch (fourth and best sportsman). I suppose you can't complain at that!

Anyway, young Chris Legg did okay at the Bristol Brawl, coming in sixth, although he was using a really cheesy army of course.

But your attentions must be focussed on the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign, my friends: for there are but two weeks left and there is nothing between the top six or seven. Who will win? Who will lose? Only you have the answer, fellow Dragon Slayers... so get them games in before the end!

Oh, and don't forget the Spring Necromunda 2004 campaign will begin in April, too... more info on that in the next couple of weeks!

February was Good

Yes indeed, last month was rather good to us Dragon Slayers - so it seems only fair to the general public to open the Scrapbook for February and show you exactly why. I'll give you a clue: it's got something to do with the Sheffield Slaughter and the GW UKGT Finals...

But let us not forget what is happening ahead of us, for the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign is still going strong and the top spot is becoming attuned to young Singe Frost, although Andrew Chesney and Rob Lane are hot on his heels. Who will win this year? Only you can help to find out, so get down to't club and get playing!

There's only four campaign nights left too, so if you want to get yourself on the Leaderboard you'd best get cracking!

Only one of us managed to make it into the WAB GT this past weekend (well, we are predominantly a Warhammer club, let's face it), our Richard Paget - whose Vikings managed to finish 28th in what was a pretty strong field. Well done to him for representing the Dragon Slayers so well, if a little forlornly...!

Check out the latest results for the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign though, because the big fella is doing pretty well these days. The campaign itself is getting ever hotter and next week should see the Leaderboard populated with a few more of the boys - so make sure you get down and get playing!

It's Getting Hot!

That's right, the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign is hotting up right good with ten more games played last night, four more people on the Leaderboard and plenty of action to report on! We've just passed the halfway point and whilst we have an early leader in the shape of Andrew Chesney - whose Lizardmen have been rampaging all over everybody - there's still lots more games to come yet. Who can knock the lanky one off the top spot...? Only you have the answer!

See you at the club next week!

Slaughter Reporters

The incredible experience that was the Sheffield Slaughter for 2004 has now been and gone, but that doesn't mean we can't look back and reflect upon its virtues... and vices: thus, two Dragon Slayer reporters by the name of Adam Winters and Richard Paget have taken the proverbial bull by the horns and done just that, resulting in the fantastic reads that now lie within your grasp.

So, if you were a part of it, you wanted to take part in it but couldn't or you just fancy whiling away a few minutes before the missus gets you to do something else, take a look at the Sheffield Slaughter report and the player report known as Mid Table Madness... but be warned, there's sarcasm, colloquialism and many other kinds of ism's in there. (Stop that dirty mind right now).

The usual update for the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign is also ready for you to peruse. Who says I don't give value for money?

Oh, and next week there'll be another player report, this time about the GW UKGT Finals; which is typical really - you wait for months for a single one and then three come along at once!

Laterz!

Nathan, Grand Champion

Believe it folks: this year's Warhammer Grand Champion is none other than Nathan Hoole, who has threatened to grab a first place for so many years but has somehow missed out... until now! The big fella took the GW UKGT Finals by storm with his Skaven horde, even battering compatriot Rob Lane in the last game. All was not lost though: the long-haired one won the Best Sportsman award even though everybody knows he's really a git, ending up in fourth place, and Martin Bunting took the Best General from Nathan Hoole by one point but finished sixth!

The Slayers section has been updated with all the results of course, but it must be noted that all told seven Dragon Slayers were in the top twenty, which proves what most of us have said all along - we're the deadliest Warhammer players in the known multiverse!

And that's not all: I've managed to wring as much effort as possible out of my ageing frame and opened the Scrapbook for January. Am I tired or what?

Right, I'm off to recover from the excesses of the weekend and bask in the reflected glory that must be Nathan Hoole... catch you next week!

Campaigns and Slayers

A mega update for yerz: the Winter Warhammer 2004 saw seven games last night so check out the results from those - especially as the Leaderboard has now been populated somewhat. Only two people on there as yet but there should be more next week!

As well as that, the Slayers section has been completely updated with all the results from the Sheffield Slaughter last weekend, and we have ourselves another new Slayer in the somewhat ginger form of Craig Williams - who hails from Mansfield itself! We're a local club for local people!

I'm still waiting on the promised report for the Sheffield Slaughter but I will create a "proper" results page as well as attendant images next week (getting the Scrapbook for January done is also on my list of things to do), when I get over another full weekend of wargaming thanks to the GW UKGT Finals. Speaking of which, hopefully the Dragon Slayers will make it back home with a cup or two - there's plenty of us going after all - but as long as no Johnny Foreigners steal it away from good old Blighty I don't care who wins!

See you at the weekend!

Sheffield Slaughter 2004 Results

Totally Slaughtered!

What a cracking start to the year! The Sheffield Slaughter turned out to be the best ever from the Dragon Slayers in mine humble opinion, with sixty-eight entrants battling it out for two days with some totally original scenarios and subgames proving very popular indeed! Thanks must go to everbody who attended as there were no problems whatsoever and the atmosphere was incredibly friendly; it was so smooth even the natives were impressed! The fallout from the event has already started on the various forums too, so if you fancy feeding a bit of back you're very welcome indeed!

Of course, we shouldn't go any further without mentioning the winners: Keith Wilkinson won overall and grabbed Best General too, with the Viet Taff's very own Guy Palmer coming in second and followed up in third by Marcus Pitt, three very nice men if ever there were any. Best Sportsman was Paul Groves, Best Painted Army went to Rob Downey's lovely Nurgle Chaos and the winner of the Big Guy Bash was John Snape (who actually looks like an Ogre, which just goes to show). If you need to know more you can download the Results in the form of an Excel spreadsheet, but there will of course be a report at some point in the near future. If my slaves get to work, that is!

Apart from that, thanks again for a cracking event and we'll see you next year!

The Slaughter's Here!

Yes, the Sheffield Slaughter is almost upon us and I for one can't wait! I'm confident it will be as enjoyable as it has always been in the past, even if the weather is determined to scupper our organisation... so beware, it could be mighty cold in Sheffield this weekend! I'll be there at the Davy Sports Club on the Friday night regardless, so if you fancy a few beers pop in!

Enough of that: the Winter Warhammer 2004 has seen a fait bit of activity this week with eight games played, so check out the results from that. Nobody's on the Leaderboard yet but there should be a few people on there soon, especially after the GW UKGT Finals the weekend after the Sheffield Slaughter, and I fancy that's when the campaign will really hot up.

Anyway: see you at the Sheffield Slaughter!

One Week to Go!

Only one week remains before the Sheffield Slaughter so by now let's hope you've all got your painting done! A quick word about the Friday night though - we'll be setting up the tables on Saturday morning, so I'm afraid there won't be a chance of a few practice games beforehand thanks to the Davy Sports Club having a function, but we're all welcome to pop in and partake of a few beers. Hopefully I'll see you there!

The Winter Warhammer 2004 is going strong and getting stronger; since the last update mentioned here nineteen games have been played with everybody battering everybody else! It seems this year there are no campaigners out in front early, and almost everybody has won, lost or drawn. It's tight, and that's how it should be!

There should be one update next week, before the Sheffield Slaughter, but I don't think there'll be any last-minute stuff. So, I'll be seeing you there peeps!

Here we go boys! The Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign started on Tuesday and already we have six games under our belt! If you want to take part and hone your skills against your fellow Dragon Slayers, get yourself down to the club and get playing - this time there's a lot up for grabs!

More on that next time, but please give a big Dragon Slayer welcome to our newest member, Adam Winters, who has joined us not only to improve his gaming skills but also his social skills too. Sadly, we have to say goodbye to two Slayers who joined in 2002, Matt Ash and Dave Grant, who won't be renewing their membership for the coming year. Maybe in the future, though!

Not forgetting the Sheffield Slaughter, of course: two players have now dropped out but the demand is such that I have two reserve players to fill their shoes already, and there will be an update for the Rules Pack over the weekend.

Keep watching!

Happy New Year!

Yes, I know it's the second day in the new year, but a slight inebriation on the first day of the new year inconvenienced me somewhat. That's what Drinking Chess will do for you, so don't try it at home kids!

Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone reading this, and please to enjoy the latest instalment of the ever-growing saga of the deadliest wargamers in the universe: the Scrapbook for December has just opened and there's also a new feature, a Best Of selection for the whole year to remind you just what silly billies we all are!

And there's more: check out the latest Galleries update, namely Rob Lane's Blood Bowl team known as The Icebreakers! Will this pleasure never end?

Sadly, no. To bring you back down to earth, don't forget that the Annual General Meeting for the Dragon Slayers will be held next Tuesday, the 6th of January at 7:00pm-ish, so please try to attend if you want to have a say in how the club is run.

So, make sure those resolutions count, select your army for the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign (which starts after the AGM next Tuesday) and get that Rules Pack for the Sheffield Slaughter downloaded!
