Merry Christmas All!

Merry Christmas to all and sundry from the Dragon Slayers!

Don't forget that next Tuesday is our all-day Christmas gaming session down at the Gas Club, with the usual Curry Night afterward, so make sure you can attend because it'll be a corker! I imagine most of us will be sorting out our Warhammer army for the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign (which starts in January) and the forthcoming Sheffield Slaughter at the end of January, but I'm sure there'll be other games going on!

As well as that, take note that the Annual General Meeting for the Dragon Slayers will be held on the 6th of January at 7:00pm-ish, so please try to attend if you want to have a say in how the club is run.

Apart from that, have a good Christmas and get downloading that Rules Pack for the Sheffield Slaughter!

Dave's the Winner!

The Finals Day for the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league was held yesterday, and what a cracking day it was: only six of us actually made it in the end, but that didn't matter because we all got prizes and those who didn't turn up, er, didn't! Ha ha!

Anyway: over the course of the day, through the quarters, semis and finals, it was no surprise that the scorer of twelve touchdowns won the final and will have his name inscribed on the coveted Summer Blood Bowl Shield. Yep, well done to young Dave Grant who showed us all how it was done, beating Andrew Chesney in the final... well, he has been playing the game since 1988!

Mention must be made of the other finalists of course, who all deserve recognition for actually turning up in the face of so many festive distractions. Next year we'll hold the Finals a littler earlier, I promise!

Now the Blood Bowl's over it's time to concentrate on Warhammer: so don't forget that the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign starts in January and the utterly brilliant Sheffield Slaughter is at the end of January - so get downloading that Rules Pack!

Blood Bowl Finals

That's it folks: after five months, thirty-four games, a hundred and nine touchdowns, ninety-eight casualties and an incredible amount of double skulls, the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league has finished! Feel free to check out the full results and final positions of course (although it's no surprise to many that Rob Lane won overall, thanks to playing everyone, his dog and their cousins) but that's not the end yet because the Finals are on Saturday - which means there's still a few games to be played before the winner of the coveted Summer Blood Bowl Shield is announced!

Stay tuned, but don't forget the Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign starts in January and the utterly brilliant Sheffield Slaughter is at the end of January - so get downloading that Rules Pack!

Winter Warhammer

It's that time of the year again lads - the decorations are up, the presents are bought, the cards are sent, the rellies are waiting to tell you they don't see you enough the rest of the year you've let yourself go a bit haven't you don't drink that much beer it's bad for you is that all you bought me? Ahem. But enough about my problems: suffice to say Christmas is here, and we're all suffering. So, just to ensure you've something else to look forward to over the festive period, I'm here to tell you all about what's on the horizon for us Dragon Slayers - namely, the utterly fantastic Winter Warhammer 2004 campaign which is just about ready to captivate you like it did earlier on this year! Three months' worth of gaming with plenty of prizes on offer and a slightly different set of Rules should ensure we all enjoy ourselves playing Warhammer in the New Year, especially as we'll be using the new Scenario Generator the Warhammer Players Society are using with so much success. A chance to play something different, methinks - so put your name down!

Of course, the current Dragon Slayer campaign - the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league (check out the results from this Tuesday) - is winding up, with the Finals Day just around the corner and the last games being fought next week; and I think overall it's been a success. At first it was a little like getting blood from a stone, but eventually we've managed to get ten players going with over thirty matches played in the short space of four months. Not bad going for a first try - and I fully intend to hold another league next year, as well as continuing our campaign success with one around another specialist game, which is currently looking like Necromunda, if the poll on the forums is anything to go by.

Oh yes: and if Chrimbo is still getting you down, you can look forward to the Sheffield Slaughter at the end of January - so get downloading that Rules Pack!

Open VII

A good weekend was had by the Dragon Slayers at the Warhammer Open VII - seven of us attended, a slightly smaller number than usual, but we did pretty well all the same! Perennial limelight hogger Rob Lane won the whole shebang, grabbing the Best General award too, and young Martin Bunting shored him up in second: not only that, Andy Smith was fifth, Chris Legg sixth and Singe Frost eighth! A good result all round methinks!

Here's something for the oldies too - today sees the return of the fabled Dragon Slayer Statistics page, and although there's only one criteria as yet (best average) I'm sure when I work out what PHP actually is and what it can do I'll manage to get more statistics sorted. It's interesting reading and no mistake!

There's not much else to tell you about apart from the usual cry to get downloading the Sheffield Slaughter's fantastic Rules Pack!

New Forums!

I've been meaning to get around to this for a while, but you know what it's like: work, home, the pub, washing my hair... if a day lasted forty-eight hours I might be able to get everything done! Even so I've still managed to create some new Dragon Slayer Forums for youse lot, this time based on PHP BB rather than Ezboard - which basically means they're faster, they look better and the functionality is a lot easier to use. If you're still not convinced, they're just like the Warhammer Players Society forums (suitably altered to fit into the Dragon Slayer style), okay?

Enough technicalities: if you want to join in, please note the instructions in the Welcome! post within the Notice Board forum and post away, but if you think these forums will just be for Dragon Slayers and thus aren't worth bothering about, I'd politely ask you to think again: not only will you find all sorts of information about us lot and our events, there's also forums concerned with the various Games Workshop games, painting and modelling, classifieds and so on. In short, there's something for everyone - so get posting!

Last but not least: don't forget to download the Rules Pack for the Sheffield Slaughter and check out the update for the Summer Blood Bowl 2003, which saw two games played last night!

Scrapbooks Old and New

With the fuss over the Sheffield Slaughter having died down a little, I thought it was about time I got around to updating the Scrapbook - but rather than just giving you the usual month's update (this time November of course), how does the whole of the year 2000 tickle your fancy? A few people have been badgering me to get it done, so here it is... enjoy, but don't try any of it at home!

Since the Rules Pack for the Sheffield Slaughter has been released there's been a few questions and comments on it, which have mostly been very welcome. I'd like to ask everybody who has downloaded it to try out as much of the rules, scenarios and big guy bash as you can - the more playtesting the better - and I will change anything that needs to be changed.

For now keep downloading the current version, but I will update it over Christmas with any changes made listed right here, and if there's any serious changes you'll be the first to know. Get cracking chaps!

Fully Booked

It's incredible, isn't it? There's still two months to go until the Sheffield Slaughter and it's now fully booked up with seventy entrants - the most we've ever had! Fantastic! For those lucky few that have entered, I'd just like to say thank you for your support because it's greatly appreciated. Hopefully it'll be the best Dragon Slayer tournament yet!

Don't despair if you've left it too late though: with two months to go there may well be a few drop-outs before the tournament itself, so keep watching the site. If we have a glut of drop-outs, get your entry form in quick! For those of you that have already sent your entry form and you find you're not on the list of entrants, I will ensure you are on a reserves list in case somebody does indeed drop out. Don't swamp me with reserve entries though!

There are some other things happening in the Dragon Slayer universe, of course, and it would be remiss of me not to let you know what's going on. The Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league is still going and last night there were five games, so check out the results from those; and if you're actually in the league, I'd better let you know about the Finals Day, on which we'll be holding the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final itself and distributing prizes accordingly. That'll be the 20th of December, a Saturday, at the Gas Club of course - and it'll be run in a plate / cup / shield system, so even if you lose you get to play for something else!

Apart from that, don't forget to download the Rules Pack!

Slaughter Rules!

That's not a statement of fact (although it could be) - it just means the Sheffield Slaughter, which is already up to fifty-five entrants, now has a Rules Pack to download! Yep, after burning the early-evening-with-neighbours-in-the-background oil I've finally finished the rules, which are - if I say so myself - the best for a Dragon Slayer event yet!

So what's the crack? Well, along with all the usual gubbins you'll find that there's five games of Warhammer to look forward to, three of which are special scenarios that should test your tactical skills to the limit, as well as making the game a little more interesting than the same old pitched battle of course. Before each game you get to fight a Big Guy Bash for ten minutes - which should prove a good source of merriment - but the crowning turd on the waterpipe (to borrow a phrase) is the Treasure of the Dragon Slayers, which will hopefully make you laugh as much as it did me when I wrote it... I suppose I shouldn't really laugh at my own jokes, but who cares? It's Christmas! Er, nearly...

Anyroad: it should be realised that these rules could well change before the tournament itself, thanks to people playtesting the scenarios to death or pointing out various bits that could be written better. I may even add a few passages here and there. The long and short of it is that, if you want to print the rules pack out now then do so by all means, but bear in mind the best thing to do is to wait until the day before the tournament and then print it out! That way you'll be assured of having an up-to-date copy!

Don't worry though - if you've any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at my usual e-mail address, roblane@dragon-slayers.org.uk, because for my sins in a past life I'm the organiser and have to answer them. Woe is me!

What are you still reading this for? Download that Rules Pack!

Slaughters Past

As I'm quite bored today and the Sheffield Slaughter next year is at the forefront of my mind (don't worry - the rules will be done, dusted and uploaded by tomorrow night, I promise), I thought I'd finally get a few things done around the site, not the least of which are the Images from the Sheffield Slaughter 2003! It's taken nearly a year, but better late than never, so go have a look-see!

As well as that, I've added all the various scenarios and duels we've used at Slaughters over the years to the site, which should give you a good insight as to what sort of stuff we get up to at our events. There's twelve scenarios and two sets of duels - the Arena of Death and the Wizard's Duel - in all, and you'll find them in the Events section, on the Rules page. We won't be using any of them for the Sheffield Slaughter next year though, we'll have all new ones!

As for the Sheffield Slaughter 2004... forty-nine entrants and counting, so get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off as quick as you can!

Get your Entries In!

Forty-one entries in for the Sheffield Slaughter so far people, and not all the Dragon Slayers have confirmed their entry (so you can add another ten to fifteen on top of that), and as there's a limit of seventy for the tournament you'd best get your entries in quick if you want to attend! It looks like we'll be packed out this year... still, we're not complaining!

I'm working on the rules pack right now and it should be finished off this weekend, which means you lot will be able to download it from Monday. Hopefully. It's pretty similar to previous incarnations of course but there are some very interesting twists, including the Big Guy Bash and a hoard of Dragon Slayer Treasure to plunder from... and if that doesn't whet your appetite nothing will!

Owt else? Um... just the usual single game in the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 campaign to report!

Oh, and get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off now!

Daley's Druchii

Yes, yet more stuff for John Dale groupies: it's about time I uploaded another army for the Galleries section anyway, so whose better than one of the Man of the Moment's? Known around these parts as The Nan Kherith, not only are they featured in a battle report in the latest copy of White Dwarf (which I'm sure he'd autograph if you asked him nicely, and I'm saying that without a trace of sarcasm), they were also painted by his own fair hand... and there's not many of his armies you can say about that, nudge nudge wink wink!

But enough frivolity for one day. Incredibly enough, the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 campaign is still going and last Tuesday night there were two games played, so hop on over and check out the Leaderboard... 'cos it's changed!

As well as that, we mustn't forget the Sheffield Slaughter because there are now three more entrants... so get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off before it's sold out!

Daley Dazzles 'Em!

Crikey blimey O'Reilly! It took a red-faced pseudo Dragon Slayer GIMP - the somewhat ginger shape of Andy Stevenson, who took the top spot - to beat off (oo-er) the Dragon Slayers at the WPS GT last weekend! John Dale just missed out in second place with his Dark Elves, Rob Lane came in third and won the second place Players' Choice best army and Dave Grant finished fourth - so you could say the top four were all Dragon Slayers!

All the various Slayers who attended have had their pages updated, so pop over to the Slayers section for a complete update. Mention must be made of Chris Legg of course, who played his first tournament in Dragon Slayer colours, so a big up for him!

Now the big tournaments are over for the year, we can concentrate on the Sheffield Slaughter. I must warn prospective entrants that places are filling up fast! We have twenty-two entrants so far, not including most of the Dragon Slayer membership, so you can basically add twenty to that number; and as the most we can fit in is seventy players (and that's a push) you'd better get your entries in fast if you don't want to be disappointed.

I can't overstate this enough: make sure you get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off as soon as you can!

Oh, and I'd better not forget to give you lot the latest slice of the Dragon Slayer Scrapbook pie, as October has just disappeared and we're well into November!

Seez you later peeps!

The Hooligan Hammers 'Em!

We did good at the GW UKGT Heat 2 last weekend guys! Whilst we didn't quite see off Johnny Foreigner and all his little (furry) wizards, most of us Dragon Slayers managed to qualify for the GW UKGT Finals next February, with only Rich Gedney and total newbie Martin Quinn - at his first tournament, lest we forget - not quite getting there. Commiserations and good luck next time lads!

A couple of our members did really well though - Nathan Hoole finished sixth, John Dale sixteenth and Rob Lane eighteenth - and those three will join Martin Bunting, Andrew Chesney, Adrian McWalter and Pete Scholey in the GW UKGT Finals next February. Not forgetting Jason Annett, Paul Corcoran, Dave Grant and Andy Smith of course, who qualified at the GW UKGT Heat 1 in July.

Next up is the WPS GT in a couple of weeks, and there'll be plenty of us there I can tell you!

There's quite a lot of other things to tell you, too: there's a few more entrants for the Sheffield Slaughter this week so make sure you get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off as soon as you can. Another game has been played in the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 too, so have a gander at that.

That's not all though peeps: we've two new members in the (slightly large) shape of Chris Legg and Richard Paget, so a big warm welcome and get the first round in to them!

Doing it for Blighty

It's that time again guys; time for us Dragon Slayer types to do battle with Johnny Foreigner at the GW UKGT Heat 2 this coming weekend. Can the Forces of Blighty prevail against the ne'er-do-wells that abound at such events? Only the Deadliest Wargamers In The Universe - Martin Bunting, Andrew Chesney, John Dale, Rich Gedney, Nathan Hoole, Rob Lane, Adrian McWalter, Martin Quinn (at his first event for us) and Pete Scholey - can give us the answer, so bless 'em all and good luck chaps!

Elsewhere in Dragon Slayer Land, we've had plenty more entrants for the Sheffield Slaughter this week so get that Entry Form downloaded, filled in and sent off - along with appropriate renumeration of course. Oh, and the usual single game in the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 has occurred - no prizes for guessing who one of the coaches was...

Updates

A couple of them for yer: we've already had a few entrants for the Sheffield Slaughter so it looks like you'll have to be quick people - places will no doubt fill up pretty fast! As well as seeing a list of confirmed entrants I've also stuck in a table of grudges, because there's been a couple of those too!

Only one of us managed to make it to the Macclesfield Manoeuvres this year - Martin Bunting - and despite the lack of support from his team-mates he did rather well to finish fourth, so well done to him! We're assured of an excellent turnout at the GW UKGT Heat 2 next week though, because eleven of us are attending (at the last count anyway). It should be a bit of a cracker, so we'll see you there!

That's not all, because the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 is still ticking over. Have a look-see!

Bring Your Daughter!

Well, you don't have to, but you might as well... because the world-renowned Dragon Slayer tournament known as the Sheffield Slaughter is booked and ready for the masses in 2004! January 31st and February 1st are the dates, £20 is the damage and 2,000 points of fun-filled Warhammer is the object!

What are you waiting for? Have a gander at the Sheffield Slaughter 2004 Preview Page and once you've taken the time to decide whether to attend (like: one second), download that Entry Form now! You'll need the latest versions of WinZip and Acrobat to read, of course!

It's incredible, isn't it? The Dragon Slayers just keep on winning tournaments - not that we're complaining of course! The latest suspect is in fact a usual suspect in the slightly orange shape of Martin Bunting, who won the fantasy event at the World Wargames last weekend, but a non-usual suspect is relative newbie Singe Frost, who came in second!

As always, check out the Slayers pages for everybody else's results... and to find out your new averages of course!

Can we follow up our recent success at the Macclesfield Manoeuvres this coming weekend? I wouldn't like to bet against it... after all, the future's red and white - and I don't mean Sheffield United!

Ah yes, Scrapbook update time once more folks: September is under the spotlight, and what a nice spotlight it is too. D-Day Museum piccies ahoy!

Pompey is Pillaged

Huzzah for us lot, yah boo sucks to everybody else: the Dragon Slayers stormed the Portsmouth Pillage this weekend with five players in the top ten and a ton of awards! Mister consistent Rob Lane took the top spot yet again, with so-called washed-up has-been John Dale coming in third and cleaning up the Players' Choice painting award for his fantastic Beastmen. Andrew Chesney somehow failed to get in the top three (finishing fourth) even though he hammered every opponent in sight; and both Martin Bunting and Pete Scholey did well at ninth and tenth respectively - and they only placed so low because they had to play their fellow Dragon Slayers! As well as that, Adrian McWalter was Best Sportsman - not a bad weekend's work all round methinks, and there's plenty of silly pictures for the September Scrapbook too! Bonus!

Check out the Slayers pages for more individual results, and bring on the GW UKGT Heat 2 in a month's time!

Yes, it's time for a Scrapbook update again - this time August gets the treatment!

The Blood Bowl league's been a bit slow these past couple of weeks - with only three games being played - but there should be a fair bit of activity next Tuesday. If you can't wait until then hop over to the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 page for a full update and mayhap a laugh or two.

We're off to the Warhammer Open VI on Saturday - perhaps we'll see you there. If not we'll definitely see you at the Portsmouth Pillage at the end of the month!

Blood Bowl Tastic

Apologies for the terrible grammar but it's the only way to describe last Tuesday night: five games of Blood Bowl with lots of touchdowns, casualties and double skulls were had, which means the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league has finally forced itself through the average Dragon Slayer's Warhammer-saturated psyche and onto their gaming tables! Chief of the Chief Coaches is Dave Grant right now, as he's played three won three with his dastardly Wood Elves. Can you lot stop him?

Double Delight

Lots of success to report for us lot these past two weekends: Paul Corcoran took first prize at the one-day East Midlands Veterans tournament at GW HQ the weekend before last, and followed it up with a ninth place at the GW UKGT Heat 1 this weekend just gone - and with the rest of the Dragon Slayers qualifying, we seem to have those Games Workshop events pretty much sorted!

As well as that, Rob Lane grabbed the top spot in the fantasy event at Britcon, with Matt Otter falling to the curse of the leader's yellow jersey and finishing fourth! A stunning performance from the boys!

As always, check out the Slayers pages for updates!

Week two!

Britcon and Heat 1

It's the middle of August and so a few of us are off to the British Historical Gaming Society's annual wargaming festival at Loughborough known as Britcon - well, three of us are anyway! In the past we've usually attended this one in force but only Rob Lane, Matt Otter and Paul Scrivens-Smith are going... mainly because of the fact that the GW UKGT Heat 1 is also on this weekend (as well as the cricket test match at Trent Bridge - some good planning there folks...)! That means there's a few of us at GW HQ Lenton of course, namely Jason Annett, Paul Corcoran, Dave Grant and Andy Smith! Good luck to them all!

There's also an update to the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 league and although only one game was played (again), once the above two tournaments are out of the way I'm sure it'll really kick off... so if you haven't got a game in yet, go for it!

August is here and July is gone, which generally means a Scrapbook update for July - go check it out!

As well as that, the Blood Bowl league began in earnest last week although only one game was played, between Andrew Chesney and Rob Lane (the score was 2-0). I blame the hot weather but I could equally put it down to everybody else playing Warhammer, but still... have a look at the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 page for a full update!

A Summer of Blood Bowl!

Finally, it's here - the long-awaited Dragon Slayers Blood Bowl league for this year, called Summer Blood Bowl 2003! The full rules are on the Summer Blood Bowl 2003 Rules page, but if you can't be bothered to have a look you ought to know that it'll be run between August and October, with the play-offs and the final following in November, and you'll see exactly how good our coaches are over the next few months! In other words, not very good... well, it is our first one!

Thanks must of course go to Pete Delafield for helping to set up and run the league - he will be the Commissioner, so if you have any questions of a technical nature please direct them to him!

Let's hope we all enjoy it boys and if your name's not down, why isn't it? Get playing!

Smythe Smashes 'Em!

Another excellent couple of weekends have just gone by - Paul Scrivens-Smith won the 40K event at Tanelorn MDPF with his Necrons and Martin Bunting grabbed second place in the fantasy event, and whilst none of us won anything at Toy Soldier II, it was well worth the visit thanks to Andrew Chesney finishing eighth and John Dale fifteenth with his new Dark Elves (which may well be featured in the Gallery pretty soon)! All in all, two more cracking events for the Slayers pages!

It's about time we mentioned something about a few upcoming Dragon Slayer events, too: we're planning an internal tournament in Mansfield later on in the year, possibly December, for members and special guests only, which we'll use to playtest a few nice bits and pieces for the Sheffield Slaughter next year. As well as that, we'll be getting a Blood Bowl league up and running as soon as I can be bothered to get the rules pack ready, which should be for August time - but you never know...

The next one's Britcon boys - so get your entries in!

Tidying Up

A small collection of tidies for you this time: with the WPS Warmaster GT just gone and two of our members, Andrew Chesney and Paul Scrivens-Smith (who won the Players' Choice for his Empire army) attending, their Slayers pages are updated; and thanks to Games Workshop getting their sums wrong I've also had to update the pages of various members who attended the Conflict: Edinburgh back in April. Those changes actually push Andrew Chesney into third place, which is a bonus!

Just time to wish good luck to all our members off to Toy Soldier II this coming weekend - Andrew Chesney, John Dale, Rob Lane and Adrian McWalter! Sock it to 'em lads!

Past, Present and Future

Past: I thought it was about time we paid homage to previous Dragon Slayers - after all, they've contributed to our success too - and to that end I've created a few pages to remember Dave Batten, Mick Charlesworth, Stuart Dyke, Matt Gedney, John Hoyland and Petar Kanuritch. A few have simply disappeared, but equally there's a couple that may well return to us in the years ahead. Who knows?

Present: it's time for a Scrapbook update, and June has provided some excellent subject matter, with two cracking events - the Weymouth Waaagh! and the Warhammer Open V - ensuring our efforts in May were duly forgotten. Have a gander!

Future: we have a new member in the shape of Martin Quinn, a nice bloke from Sheffield, hand-picked by Nathan Hoole from the ranks of the police. Yes, we have another policeman on our books - but he's nicer than the other ones, so don't worry!

See you next time blokes!

A Winning Weymouth

What a fantastic weekend that was! Sun, sea, sand and Warhammer at the Weymouth Waaagh! as usual, but more success for the Dragon Slayers than you can shake a stick at: Rob Lane nicked the top spot by one point from evergreen Martin Bunting, Dave Grant was fourth, Matt Otter was eighth and Michael Biggs twelfth! To cap it all off, Rob Lane won the Judges' Choice award for the best army!

We even did well in the 40K event - kudos to Paul Scrivens-Smith, coming in at 7th - apart from Andrew Chesney, who came in last... commiserations to him, but you can be sure he'll get some practice in for next time!

Well, we may not have done very well at the Club Challenge, but the Warhammer Open V is ours - not only did we win the Best Gaming Club award, us Dragon Slayers managed to take the top six placings and every award in the fantasy event! Starting from the top, pay homage to Martin Bunting, Rob Lane, Nathan Hoole, Andy Smith, Singe Frost and Matt Otter, heroes all!

Mention must also be made that Martin Bunting was Best General, Rob Lane won the Best Painted Army award and Matt Ash was Best Sportsman! Not forgetting Darren Dabell of course, who painted a Necron army in a week so he could play in his first ever Warhammer 40,000 event - finishing 12th! Well done to him and for more individual results, check out the Slayers section!

Reflections of May

Ah yes - time for a Scrapbook update. May this time of course, with reflections of two rather large tournaments, the GW UKGT Finals and the Club Challenge - both of which we were rather successful at individually!

But now we look to June for more Dragon Slayer success and at some cracking events, not least of which is the Weymouth Waaagh!, always a corker of a tournament thanks to sun, sea and, er, fish and chips... there'll be plenty of us in attendance! This coming weekend of course is the GW UKGT 40K Finals at which only one of our members is in attendance - Dave Grant, so good luck to him - and the week after that is the one-day Warhammer Open V. There'll be more in July too!

So don't fret guys - there's still plenty to look forward to this year!

Och, as they say - the Club Challenge has been and gone, and us Dragon Slayers did not extend our previous success, finishing fourth in the overall club standings (which actually wasn't bad compared to our very poor start). Fortunately we had a smattering of individual success, greatest of which was old hand Paul Scrivens-Smith, who won the Warhammer English Civil War event and Andy Smith, who was joint best sportsman.

The rest of us can only cry into our beers, but Andrew Chesney came out as top Slayer for the fantasy event, ending up in 6th place, with the aforementioned Andy Smith next at twelfth. For more individual results, check out the Slayers section - although I must mention a certain wanderer named Darren Dabell who, after an absence of nearly two years, has graced another tournament by his presence. Good to have you back Daz!

Memories of 2001

It's not often you can say that your club is the best in the land and with this year's Club Challenge only two weeks away, it seems only fitting that we remember the year we won it in the Scrapbook 2001! That's not all that happened that year, of course, but it was certainly our most successful "season" in terms of honours and trophies... and it was also the year we decided to merge properly and form the Dragon Slayers. It took us six months to do it, but we got there in the end - so have a look at what we got up to!

Just a word of encouragement to Matt Ash too - he's off to the Conflict: Manchester this weekend!

Well done to him and to John Dale, who was eighth and was second placed for Best Army!

The UKGT Finals

The GW UKGT Finals are finally here and the Dragon Slayers will be there in force! Unfortunately the winner of the GW UKGT Heat 1 - Adrian McWalter - isn't going (he has to catch some criminals at some point, after all), but Jason Annett, Matt Ash, Michael Biggs, Martin Bunting, Andrew Chesney, Paul Corcoran, John Dale, new guy Singe Frost, Dave Grant, Rich Gedney, Rob Lane and Andy Smith most definitely are! As well as that, our own Moustachioed Musketeer, Pete Scholey, is an official Games Workshop Umpire - so we're assured of a large presence indeed!

Before you all jet off to play though, take a look at the past month's shenanigans in the April 2003 scrapbook... it makes interesting viewing, as does the page for the newest member of the Dragon Slayers, Singe Frost, who joined last week!

St George's Day

It may have escaped the attention of a few people out there, but us Dragon Slayers (apart from pseudo Scotsman Matt Otter, of course) never forget that April 23rd is St George's Day, a celebration of the patron saint of England and all things English! The observant among you should have realised that we take our name and our shield from his history, and it seems fitting that today of all days we quote one of the greatest Englishmen of all time:

"There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other. That word is England."

- Winston Churchill

Check out some of the links to the left for more information on St George and his history!

Thanks to it being Easter we're taking the opportunity to have a mini-holiday too so we may see you around - we're certainly going to annoy people at Edinburgh Castle!

A Tale of Two Tournaments

Over the weekend two tournaments took place on opposite sides of the Atlantic, involving most of our playing strength - the Warhammer Open IV in Nottingham and the Baltimore GT in Yankland - with the end result being a few more trophies in the bag for the Dragon Slayers! Best of the bunch were Paul Corcoran, who came second at the Warhammer Open IV, and John Dale, who added another couple of painting awards for his quite fantastic Beastmen Kroo. Obviously the Americans were as impressed as the rest of us, and hopefully I can persuade him to let me take some pictures for the Galleries!

Apart from those two, mention must be made of Pete Scholey's efforts in the USA; he won all his games and ran out with the top battle score, but thanks to the vagaries of the US scoring system only managed to finish sixth... and sadly, Team UK as a whole managed to lose the Warhammer Cup to Team USA; but that only means we'll be back next year to contest it again!

You can view everybody's placings on the Slayers pages - so go check 'em out!

Good Luck to the Lads!

Yes, we say goodbye and Best of British to those Dragon Slayers who are off to Yankland on Saturday; off for a week's holiday in New York and Washington and eventually Baltimore for the Grand Tournament, where they'll be joining battle with Heathens and Colonials alike to bring home the Warhammer Cup (again). Of course, the UK Team aren't all Dragon Slayers, but without the likes of Adrian McWalter, John Dale, Pete Scholey, Nathan Hoole, Andrew Chesney and Michael Biggs, I feel said Heathens and Colonials might overturn our countrymen and women.

So, wish them good luck whilst the rest of us get on with the Winter Warhammer 2003 campaign, which returned to normality on Tuesday - seven games played, seven results!

Before I go I feel that, on behalf of all the Dragon Slayers, congratulations must go to our Jason Annett, who is now a fully-grown Dad and therefore a future contributor to our booming youth programme! Nice one mate!

Week Seven!

Campaign Change

Week Seven of the Winter Warhammer 2003 campaign was a little understrength with only three games played, but that's probably down to the Baltimore Boys getting some practise in as well as a couple of visitors from the north-east popping down. Chief culprit is probably the rules change, though...

With the Club Challenge only a couple of months away we've decided to get back to 2,000 point armies as soon as possible, and as 2,500 armies seem redundant - for the time being - it makes sense to switch now rather than later. Thus, any campaign games in the future should be played with 2,000 point armies. Naturally this will affect the scoring system, but players don't have to worry about that because you just hand in your victory points as normal. If you really want to have a look at the way it affects scoring, take a peek at the Dragon Slayer Scoring System page.

Because of the change, I've allowed players to keep their current score as long as they use the same army - if you decide to use a different army, you are entered onto the campaign again, starting from scratch. To ensure this doesn't impact on the campaign itself, I've also decided to extend it into April, thus allowing players to get more games in!

In short, despite the changes, it's still a cracking campaign and everybody should get their fingers out and play!

Last night's Winter Warhammer 2003 was a cracking one with eleven more games and plenty of incident, with Pete Scholey knocking Rob Lane off the top spot on the Leaderboard... but it's not over yet, not by a long chalk! We're only just about half way through though the campaign, which means there's plenty more games to be fought from now until the end of March! Anything could happen!

Dave's Report

Providing an excellent foil to prospective baldy Paul Corcoran's Sheffield Slaughter player report (called Blood for the Blood God, rather appropriately) is new boy Dave Grant's attempt at the same: greet the mighty tome that is A Slave to Darkness! It's an excellent read but, again, if you can't bear to hear of Dragon Ogre Drakes and the Banner of the Gods, steer well clear!

Campaign Update

Week Five of the Winter Warhammer 2003 has been and gone, with the most games in a night so far - eleven! The coffers are getting full and the campaign isn't even at the halfway stage, so there's still plenty of time to get to the top of that Leaderboard! Make sure you get down to't club next week!

Other than that, the first Scrapbook of 2003, January's, is ready for you to peruse!

Reports and Slayers

Following on from the Sheffield Slaughter last weekend, I've managed to press-gang various Dragon Slayers into providing a report or two. First to put his head on the block is Paul Corcoran, who's written an account of exactly how he did the business in Blood for the Blood God! Note: if you're of a nervous disposition and don't like to read about a Bloodthirster and a Dragon Ogre Drake in the same army, please don't read it...

Elsewhere, I've updated all the Slayers for your perusal and added two new boys - Dave Grant and Matt Ash - who really have let themselves in for something by joining us lot! I've also reworked the Slayers section a little, and in a few days I'm hoping to get some statistics up. Until then - have a good one!

Slaughtered!

We certainly were! The Sheffield Slaughter was held last weekend, and what a cracking event it was! In the end we managed to lure forty-four geeks from around the country (and, indeed, Europe) to join us and bash each other senseless Warhammer-style, with the end result that everybody enjoyed themselves... even the Troll Slayers! Congratulations and thanks must go to all the entrants for making the Slaughter as good, if not better, than previous ones - and, of course, well done to the various winners, notably Dragon Slayers Paul Corcoran and new boy Dave Grant, first and third respectively, and Jon Pegg of the Troll Slayers, who was second!

But, of course, you want to find out where you finished, don't you - so have a look at the Sheffield Slaughter 2003 Results page or download the Results Spreadsheet to find out!

Other than that, check out the usual Winter Warhammer 2003 update from the fourth week of play - the Leaderboard is now up and running, but there's plenty of games to be played yet!

Third week of the Campaign!

See you there!

The Sheffield Slaughter is now upon us, and this weekend fifty-odd geeks will celebrate all things Dragon Slayer and Warhammer at the Davy Sports Club in Sheffield. There's still a few place left if anybody fancies it, and if you've already entered we'll see you there!

A note to members or prospective members - the Annual Subscriptions are now due guys, so please make sure you hand it in with your choice of payment to the Club Secretary, Rob Lane. You can either download the Annual Subscriptions 2003 form or wait until you're given one when you turn up at the club. Please note that the closing date for entries is the end of January - we'd really like you to get them in by then!

Don't forget to check out the Winter Warhammer 2003 results from the third week of play, too!

Another week goes by...

A week to go...

Yep, there's just a week to go before the Sheffield Slaughter but there's still plenty of places left. Where are you all - on your holidays? At the time of writing we only have around forty entrants, which means we need another ten or so to ensure we break even. To that end I've decided to extend the cut-off date for entries to the end of next week, so please make sure you get that entry form off in the next few days!

Check out the Winter Warhammer 2003 results from this week's games, too... Pete Scholey's going great guns so it's up to us lot to chop them Tomb Kings down!

The Campaign Starts!

The Winter Warhammer 2003 Campaign started yesterday and what a start it was - seven games and plenty of incident, not to mention an incredibly busy club because of it! Even Darren Dabell turned up! Click on the link to find out who won what where and why, and expect an update every Wednesday.

Next week it's our Annual General Meeting (don't forget guys), but in less than three weeks is the Sheffield Slaughter and places are filling up rapidly. The cut-off date for entries is the 18th of January, so if you haven't already sent out your entry form, get down to it! Hopefully we'll see you there!
