2003 is Here!

Happy New Year guys! First things first: thanks to everyone who attended the Christmas Game and Curry Night yesterday, we had a right good laugh and rest assured, the Scrapbook will soon be updated with some... er, excellent pictures! Apart from that, check out the Dragon Slayer Tournaments page in the Events section, because every tournament we've ever held is now there for you to peruse - not all of them have a full report, but the results and plenty of piccies can be seen! As well as that, and just in time for the Winter Warhammer 2003 campaign starting next Tuesday, you can now download the Rules Pack in case you didn't get one yesterday... and I fully expect everybody to play (that means you John!)

I can't believe how fast the first year of the Dragon Slayers has gone... it seems only yesterday "The Management" got together to thrash out the new club and here we are, a year down the line. Has it been a good year for us? Well, sort of... an excellent tournament was held in April - the Dragon Slayers Bash - which we all thought was pretty cool, and individually our members have won just about everything there is to win tournament-wise. One big downside was the Club Challenge this year, at which we failed to retain our trophy... but overall, it's been pretty good.

Next year is going to be fantastic for us though, I think; not only do we have a great new website (even if I do say so myself), we've also the Winter Warhammer 2003 campaign starting in January and the Sheffield Slaughter to look forward to at the end of the month. Tours to other wargames clubs are going to be arranged very soon and there's loads of tournaments to attend, not least of which the Baltimore GT in March, which will see seven of our members attend. Now that should be a right laugh!

So, in short, remember 2002 as the start of something for the Dragon Slayers, and look forward to 2003 as a great year of wargaming. Happy New Year!

More Old Reports

Merry Christmas everybody! As usual the rellies have taken up rather a lot of my time over the past few days but I've still managed to get a few things done; namely, a few more reports have transmogrified (I like that word) from the old SMDS version into the new DS version. Only one - the Mansfield Maul II 2000 - is complete with a report, images and results, but that shouldn't stop you having a look at the images and results from the last two tournaments we held, the Dragon Slayers Bash 2002 and the SMDS Challenge Cup 2001.

Other than that, I've been messing with CSS a bit and you can view the results of that messing here - let me know if you have any problems with your browser as I'm intending to convert the whole site eventually! It'll be a big job, but somebody's got to do it...

Anyway, if you haven't yet, download the Sheffield Slaughter 2003 Rules Pack and have a look at the tournament's Preview page - and if that's the case, why haven't you?

Oh, and I'll see you at the Club on Monday!

Slaughter 2001

In a bid to remind everybody how fantastic the Sheffield Slaughter actually is - and confuse you all at the same time - I've endeavoured to convert the Sheffield Slaughter 2001 report from the old SMDS website to this one... and mighty fine it is too, even if I do say so myself! Over the next few days I'm hoping to get more reports up for our own tournaments, in a bid to complete the Events section. Well, make it a little more complete anyway...

Of course, you can still download the Sheffield Slaughter 2003 Rules Pack and have a look at the tournament's Preview page!

Other news? Well, a rather large add-on to the site is the Dragon Slayer Forum, which I encourage all members to sign up to and use forthwith; there's now a club Notice Board on the website, to inform and enlighten members (and there's a link to the latest posts on the right, too); and I've also sorted out an Accommodation page within the FAQ section, for those who don't know how to get to our venues.

Blimey, I'm tired...!

Rules, Slaughtered

It's taken a couple of days longer than promised to get the rules for the Sheffield Slaughter sorted out but they're here, finally, and mighty fine they are too! You can now download the Rules Pack to your heart's content, though you'll need WinZip 7.0 or above to unzip and Acrobat Reader 5.0 to view of course. I think it's our best rules pack to date, but then I'm biased... and if you've any questions, feel free to e-mail John Dale or check out the Warhammer Players Society Forums for an immediate answer to your question!

Whilst you're there, have a look at the Sheffield Slaughter Preview page to check whether I've got your entry form... and if you haven't sent it, what are you playing at? Get those entry forms in folks! Oh, and check out the 2002 Scrapbook for a few laughs!

the sheffield slaughter's here!

Oh yes! It's finally time to reveal that the Sheffield Slaughter, probably the finest Warhammer tournament in the world, is coming in January 2003 - the 25th and 26th to be precise - and you can download the Entry Form (you'll need WinZip 7.0 or above to unzip and Acrobat Reader 5.0 to view of course) and take a look at the Preview right here! I know, I know... it's a bit short notice, but the website has taken a fair bit of time to get going, not least because I'm quite anal about it and want to get it just right for the general public. Needless to say, I've failed, so if you're completely new to this site, feel free to have a browse around; but be warned - not all the links will work yet!

Hopefully I will be getting the rules pack sorted out for later on this week - it'll be standard Dragon Slayer fare, and if you take a look at the Events section (more specifically, the Rules pages) you'll be able to garner a bit of information on how we run our tournaments and what our scoring systems are like.

Other than that, if you're a Dragon Slayer member, take a peek at the Winter Warhammer 2003 campaign page - starting in January and running through to March, it'll be a cracker, and you'd better get enthusiastic about it or I'll get Daz onto you!

warhammer open results

Well, we might have crashed at the Club Challenge a week ago, but we recovered enough to take it to the general public at the rather cool Warhammer Open III - we pretty much cleared the board of prizes, winning the Team Event, Best Sportsman and Best General as well as coming in the top five places! Overall, not a bad day! Most proud was John Dale, who proved that anybody can win with Beastmen, and Andrew Chesney who came second on his birthday with the Vampires! Check out the Slayers pages for all the results!

Enough of that: the site's progressing well and I'm hoping that by the end of next week it'll be ready for public consumption. The Sheffield Slaughter 2003 rules and entry form should be downloadable by then, too!

Until then, lucky people, keep watching!

club challenge results

The Club Challenge results popped onto the WPS not long back so I thought it only fair to update the Slayers pages... so check 'em out!

Some highlights from the event? Well, there weren't many, but... John Dale came second, Rob Lane was tenth and Paul Corcoran was a respectable eleventh, and Michael Biggs won the Players' Choice for best painted team in the Blood Bowl competition. Not bad at all!

There's a few other things to tell you about, though: the Sheffield Slaughter preview page is coming soon, hopefully at the weekend, and the rest of the website is progressing... watch this space!

No Longer Champions

Yea, you got it... sigh... the Dragon Slayers are no longer the Best Club in the Land, as evidenced by our handing over of the Club Challenge trophy to the North Birmingham Troll Slayers. Ah well... at least it wasn't the Warlords! Congratulations must still go to all the lads who attended for putting in a sterling performance, and a reminder that we can contest their supremacy next year in May! Oh, and John Dale came second, of course - congratulations to him!

Loads of entry forms for the Sheffield Slaughter 2003 were handed out last weekend, so that should ensure we'll get a fair few entries, but it also means this website has to be done and dusted pretty sharpish. And it will be - honest...

current champions!

Defending our Title

I'm still busier than a busy thing, so the Dragon Slayers website has taken a back seat of late; but, with the Sheffield Slaughter 2003 looming and lots of stuff to tell you about, I thought I'd better clue you in.

First of all, this coming weekend, the Dragon Slayers will be defending the WPS Club Challenge trophy, which we won in April last year. Needless to say, it's going to be difficult as there's lots of pretenders to our throne, but I'm pretty confident we can do it - and if we do win, you can be sure you'll hear it on here first!

Secondly, the club is coming to the end of its first year in existence, and so an AGM and subscriptions are due in January. There's a few new members coming in the New Year too, so rest assured they'll have their own spot!

Thirdly, after the Club Challenge I'll be able to get cracking on this website so that it will be ready for the screaming masses who need to know more about the Sheffield Slaughter. There's plenty of stuff to do, not least of which all the Slayers updates, but hopefully the website will be at least 75% there by the end of December - and the Christmas holidays means I can really go some. I dunno, sometimes I wish I didn't have to sleep so I could get on with things...

Lastly, if you're playing in the Club Challenge, good luck and see you tomorrow!

Wensley Wows 'Em!

Blimey, it's been a while since the last update (mainly because I'm busier than a busy thing right now) but just time to tell you about a couple of happenings over the past few weeks! First, of course, is the boys' performances at the UKGT Heat II last weekend - proudest of the proud is John Dale, who not only came ninth, but also won the Best Army award with his stunning Beastmen! We may be saying goodbye to Goran Farm as he's gone back to Sweden for good, but he put in his best performance under the Dragon Slayers, arriving in ahead of John at sixth - so we're assured of seeing him in the final! All of our other members got through, and there'll be a full update soon (as well as a gallery of John Dale's work), but for now... look forward to the WPS GT next weekend!

Bunts Bashes 'Em!

At the World Wargames Championships in Derby last weekend, the Dragon Slayers overcame the odds in a pretty competitive field to take away the top spot! Did you ever think it could be otherwise? Congratulations must go to Martin Bunting - chalk another first place for him - and Matt Otter, who came seventh! As always, check out the Slayers section for updates to their pages.

Indeed, last weekend was the start of a very hectic couple of months for us; the Scholey GT took place on Friday night, which Nathan Hoole won by a mile with his nasty-nasty Skaven army, and on Saturday is Macclesfield Manoeuvres, at which Rob Lane, Jason Annett, Paul Corcoran and Martin Bunting will be in attendance. Hopefully Corky will provide an event report for it - but I'm hoping to convert a few reports from the old website to this one when I've finished me painting!

Catch you soon!

The Galleries are here!

Wahey! The Dragon Slayers website is really taking shape - the Galleries section is now up and running, with the first of many army galleries good for a view! This particular section will never be finished because our members will always be painting up new armies, so it should get a lot bigger - hopefully!

Next up for the website is the Events section, because even now we're starting to think about a Dragon Slayers tournament in the New Year, and there's also a couple of campaigns in the offing. Not to mention the fact that this weekend there's an internal tournament - so there'll be an event report, of course! We're at the Scholey GT on Friday night, an irregular all-night tourney of some of our best players, held at Pete Scholey's house while the wee wife's away! Should be good for a laugh - well, until about 5am in the morning, of course...

All Faqqed Up

Aye, things are progressing... the FAQ section is now up and running and hopefully complete enough to answer most visitors' questions, but we'll see! The section covers such things as why the Dragon Slayers exist, what we play, what we've achieved, where we play and so on, so it should be the first port of call for the newbie. The things I do for prospective members!

Coming next are the Galleries - mainly because I've been taking a few pictures of people's armies and want to get them online before I find I can't be arsed, so watch out for that soon. It'll be Martin Bunting's Chaos Warriors and Andy Chesney's Orc & Goblin Blood Bowl team, and they should be up in the next couple of days. I'm hoping to try and get everyone's army in the gallery - a lot of good work is done by our members, and it's only right to show it off!

Catch you in a few!

Done Slayers!

If you're one of those lucky people who currently have access to this website in its embryonic form, you'll be pleased to know that all of the Slayers are now up and running - every last one of 'em have their very own page, complete with background and tournament history! How's about that for service?

A word of warning to Dragon Slayers members, however: some histories may be erroneous or incomplete, so please, if you read your page and find some small detail to be inconsistent with your memory, please let me know and I'll correct the offending item forthwith.

Enough about the Slayers, what about the site? Well, the most important thing next is the FAQ section (short for Frequently Asked Questions, if you didn't know). This section will hopefully answer any questions non-members have about us but there'll also be a few bits and pieces that may make an interesting read for members, such as a club history. The FAQ pages are currently under construction, so if you do wander over to that section be wary!

Apart from that, if you're reading this, keep checking back!

More Slayers

Beavering away is something I'm quite good at, and I'm not being rude either: I'm talking about the Slayers section! I've created five new pages for you to peruse, covering the lowlights of Jason Annett, Michael Biggs, Martin Bunting, Greg Chambers and Andrew Chesney!

There's a long way to go before I can unleash this website to the world, but it's still going to get interesting pretty soon. The first section to be finished will of course be the Slayers, because our members are most important of all, but soon afterward the FAQ - covering such details as where we play, what we play and all that - will take a hammering. It may take a couple of months to get everything up to my satisfaction, but it'll be worth it...

Laterz!

Slayers

I've been cracking on with the website this weekend and have just about formulated the design - there's still a few tweaks to be made here and there, but this is generally what it'll look like! To celebrate I decided to set up a very important section, the Slayers - a page where all the Dragon Slayers have their mugshots, armies and tournament records on show! There's only one Slayer up at the moment - me - but if you can get past the terrible smell you'll see what everybody else's page will be like!

We're back!

The Dragon Slayers are back!

It's been a while - over a year, in fact - but the website for the deadliest wargamers in the universe is back, and it's here to stay! Yep, the Dragon Slayers have a new web home, complete with domain name and everything. What more could any self-respecting DS member want? Well, a million quid would do for a start I suppose...

But anyway: in case you've missed us, you'll be pleased to know that the Dragon Slayers are not only as good as we ever were - at the Warhammer Open mini-tournament a couple of weeks ago we won everything in sight - we're also recruiting new members to ensure the future is red and white. Say hello to Andy Smith and Michael Biggs, our two newest Slayers!
