As a get well present for myself, I ordered a box of some Perry French Infantry and a box of their heavy cav as well.
Also found and ordered a cheap book on Uniforms and such.
How many Cav are we looking at to a unit?

Okay my Perry figures are very nice and lovely but I am confused.
I need an army list to work off or aim for or something!
As there seems to be a Battalions worth of figures in a box, or rather the figures in there are to represent a battalion of French line infantry, so one company of Grenadiers, a few companies of Fusiliers etc.... Basically it seems that each base of six or so figures represents a company.
So yeah an army list of some description would really help please Adi.
Also is there going to be much difference in game mechanics between a Voltiguer, Grenadier and Fusilier etc....

I'm just sticking up about 24 guys that look nice! If it goes wrong i'll alter the numbers.
Painting is on hold though as I MUST get my DAK done for Robs event, as well as decorating Evies room, an Office, fighting half the damn planet on behalf of the yanks and somehow finding time to sleep too.

ok Rich
for your french line battalions go for 24 figures as follows
1st to 4th fusilier companies so 4 stands of 4 fusiliers make one base the command base with an officer, drummer and standard bearer.
grenadier company so 1 stand of 4 grenadiers
voltigeur company so 1 stand of 4 voltiguers
for each battalion paint up a couple of skirmishing voltiguers as well.
i am at present working up some army lists for british, french and russian lists but for the time being paint line infantry and you cannot go far wrong
is that ok rich

okay i think that makes sense.
what are you basing them on, material wise and what size bases?
Offline
40 mill by 40 mil for infantry, I will be using Perry bases but you can use owt right down to beer mats

Okay so i cna use the bases that they have come with.
Two of the books that I've ordered have turned up today as well.
This one....
and this one....
They're both pretty nice looking books and I am looking forward to getting some figures together and getting cracking.

Ok Mr Gary Moore wanted me to do him a little list based on history for the Brits, gary wanted a mix of Highland and Line Infantry Regts and if possible access to some light troops
so without further a doo I have provided gary with a few options below
2nd British Brigade at the Battle of Salamanca 1812
Officer commanding Major General Henry Wheatley
2nd battalion 2nd Warwickshire, 1st battalion 42nd Royal Highland ( Black Watch), 2nd battalion 58th North Hampshire, 1st battalion 79th Cameron Highlanders. 5th Company 60th foot.
how does this equate to figures and the wargames table then
Brigade Commander = nice mounted command stand diorama type thing
2nd Warwickshire = 1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
42nd Royal Highland = 1 battalion of British Highland 24 figs
58th North Hampshire = 1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
79th Camerons = 1 battalion of British Highland 24 figs
5th Co 60th = 1 small battalion of British Rifles 12 figs (bit of artistic licence with numbers here)
OR
8th British Brigade at the Battle of Waterloo 1815
Officer commanding Major General Sir James Kempt
1st btn 28th North Gloucester, 1st btn 32nd Cornwall, 1st btn 79th Cameron Highlanders, 1st btn 95th Rifles
how does this equate to figures and the wargames table then
Brigade Commander = nice mounted command stand diorama type thing
32nd Cornwall =1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
28th North Gloucester = 1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
79th Cameron = 1 battalion of British Highland 24 figs
95th Rifles = 1 small battalion of British Rifles 12 figs (bit of artistic licence with numbers here)
OR
9th British Brigade at the Battle of Waterloo 1815
Officer commanding Major General Sir Denis Pack
3rd btn 1st Royal Scots, 1st btn 42nd Royal Highland (Black Watch), 2nd btn 44th East Essex, 1st btn 92nd Cameron Highlanders
how does this equate to figures and the wargames table then
Brigade Commander = nice mounted command stand diorama type thing
1st Royal Scots =1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
42nd Royal Highland = 1 battalion of British Highland 24 figs
44th East Essex =1 battalion of British line infantry 24 figs
92nd Camerons= 1 battalion of British Highland 24 figs
Uniform colours and the like I will take up with you on a one to one if thats ok but the colour schemes are easy to follow and in the main they are on the Perry and Victrix box sets
Does anyone else want anything like this, let me know

Hi Paul, neither have brit cav yet and I use foundary for my figures me and smithy are doing blackpowder I am doing brits paul is doing french We are witing lists for waterloo campain at the mo but will be doing lots of others
Offline
Nice one the club is umhing and ahing about blackpowder and Lasalle, JP is doing some rules for Impetus Naps.
I have read Blackpowder and watched a game of lasalle and liked the look of both so am just collecting figures at the moment, I am basing infantry 4 per 40mm base skirmishers single 20mm and cav 2 per 50mm base. I think that will do most rule sets. Not really interested in competitive play with these just doing it for good looking different games.
Could you use the Perry french Cav and paint up as Brit cav or were they really that different uniform wise ???

[here we go again]
I've gotten cold feet on my ACW project and, you've guessed it ... exchanged what i have for 2 boxes of Perry French Infantry and Cavalry.
Now if Bobby doesn't mind my exchanging the untouched box of Rebs for yet more French we have the start of something
I'm almost tempted to concentrate on the cavalry as Paul has the infantry in hand ![]()

Stuck up the first of the Cuirass - i'm working on Paul's suggestion (God, i'm easily led) of units of 20 heavies ![]()

Hi Jase,
I am doing brits as well more the merryier mate
me scrivs and Quint are having a game tuesday night
Offline
are we basing this around the 100 days or Portugal/Spain? If 1812, i'm doing some Carabiniers, if QB/Waterloo then no as they were pants
Offline
Its 1812 to 1815 mate well thats the figures we are using, do both for variation, you could use cuirassier stats on them.
by the way I think with the 24 man battalions that we are doing we are doing cav in 12 to 16's get more for you money then you see and still accurate

Cheers Ady,
I'll look at 16s then (any excuse not to paint more) and do a few "extras" for those really big games when i've run out of things to paint.
I'm going to base my French around Borodino; that way i get to do some Carabiniers in all white!
