Joining the Club

So, you want to join, eh? Well, it's not as easy as that - the Dragon Slayers are choosy about who we let loose on an unsuspecting tournament. As long as you can fulfil the guidelines below, you're half-way there... and I won't even begin to tell you about the initiation ceremony!

Who can Join?

Basically anyone of sound mind, but we do ask for a number of things to be taken into account.

  • First of all, you should be at least eighteen. We do attend a lot of tournaments away from home, sometimes over a number of days, and this generally makes life easier for us. We do a lot of drinking, too!

  • You should have at least one fully painted army - of whatever game - to play us with, and you must be able to play your chosen game well.

  • You should be able to attend the regular club meet in Mansfield at least three times a month - as in, try and get as often as possible! If you need to arrange a lift please let us know - we have members in most places around Mansfield. If you can drive, that's a bonus!

  • You should be prepared to enter at least one tournament a year. We're a competitive club and we like to blood new members as soon as possible - this is essential if the Dragon Slayers are to progress in the next few years.

  • Lastly, you should expect a rough ride. Newbies will be the butt of all jokes for a long time, possibly forever - just ask Matt Otter!

A heartwarming scene at the regular club meet in Mansfield. What a happy bunch of lads!

How much does it cost?

Not a lot, is the short answer! Subscriptions to the Dragon Slayers are taken on a yearly basis, starting in January, and cost either an up front fifty quid for the whole year or a fiver a month. On top of that are your nightly gaming fees - every time you turn up and play a game at the regular club meet, you must pay one pound fifty for the privilege, which covers the cost of the room we use.

If you're new and you join later on in the year I'm afraid the rates are still the same, but that's because you get the same benefits as somebody who has joined earlier!

John Dale gives those fees a thumbs up!

What do I get for my money?

Careful with your money, are you? Well, that's understandable. The Dragon Slayers are careful, too - which is why we need your money to flourish!

Apart from the obvious - such as paying for this website - every year your money goes towards various club shenanigans. It will finance the production of a quarterly newsletter which will be sent to your door (as well as being able to be downloaded from here), with information about the Dragon Slayers, upcoming tournaments and so on. You'll get a different club shirt every year, which we'll make sure will be ready for the first tournament of the "season". You'll get twenty quid off a tournament of your choice, thus enabling you to spend more on beer that weekend!

Not only that, but all your event organisation will be much simplified. The events co-ordinator will sort out all your tournament entries and accommodation for you - all you'll have to do is let him know in advance whether you want to go, pay the club the right money and all the hassle is gone. He'll also arrange transport! There'll also be plenty of other Dragon Slayer bashes during the year, such as curry nights, trips and so on and so forth. In short, it'll be the ultimate wargaming experience!

But wait! That's not all - oh no! In paying your monies you'll have the prestige of joining the finest wargaming club around, and what more reward could you need?

Adrian McWalter is stunned at what he gets for his money!

How do I join?

There are a number of ways you can join the ranks of the Dragon Slayers, all of which don't involve harming animals (unless you count John Dale, who is an animal). You can either:

  • Pop down to the regular club meet at Mansfield on a Tuesday and go see Rob Lane (the Club Secretary) and he'll give you a subscription form to fill in there and then

  • Download the Subscription Form from this here website, print it, fill it out and give it to Rob Lane (along with appropriate monies) at the club meet

  • Download the Subscription Form from this here website (click on the Dragon Slayer shield to the left), print it, fill it out and send it to Rob Lane, along with appropriate monies of course. You'll find his address on the Contacts page

  • E-mail Rob Lane and ask him to send you a form (but I wouldn't recommend that 'cos he's lazy)

What are you waiting for? Join us!

Can I just turn up and play?

Of course you can! There's nothing stopping you from turning up and playing if you don't want to join the Dragon Slayers, or if you think you're too young. You must remember that we turn up at the regular club meet as part of Mansfield Wargames Club, and as such welcome anybody - there's a thriving kids section and lots of games other than Games Workshop ones are played.

We even let kids like Andrew Chesney and Martin Bunting play!
