Who are the Dragon Slayers?

We're are a bunch of no-hopers from northern England who like to play wargames and attend tournaments for said wargames. We're a pretty disparate group - our members include policemen, self-proclaimed captains of industry and a goodly number of layabouts - but we're like-minded in our attitude towards gaming and we're a very tight-knit community. We've been mates for a long time now and we all look out for each other!

If you'd like to contact us directly, surf to the Contacts page. For more information on the Dragon Slayers, including a potted history, surf to the Club subsection or click on the picture opposite.

Where do you meet?

In the early days we met at each other's houses or at tournaments, but in the past few years we've been attending the home of the Mansfield Wargames Club, mainly because it's convenient for all our members (who are spread over quite a large area). Our current venue is the Gas Club off Southwell Road in Mansfield, a very nice place which has a bar and a function room big enough to hold thirty tables, but we tend to hold tournaments at the Davy Sports Club in Sheffield - mainly because it's bigger!

For more information on our venues, including maps and directions, surf to the Venues subsection or click on the links opposite.

We meet at the Gas Club every Tuesday!

When do you meet?

Every Tuesday at the Gas Club in Mansfield, 7pm sharp until 11pm, but also at most Games Workshop tournaments around the UK or at each other's houses whenever we feel like a game. We do a load of other stuff outside wargaming too, so if you join you're likely to get dragged off to nights on the town, curries and all sorts of other shenanigans!

A few places to stay...

Is there anywhere to stay nearby?

There's plenty of places to stay around the venues we use, but we've narrowed it down to three or four thanks to the feedback we've had from visitors or attendees to our tournaments. We can't vouch for their quality totally, of course, so if you stay at these places you do so at your own risk!

We play loads of different games!

What games do you play?

We've played most wargames in our time but we always return to Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy Battle. We do play other Games Workshop games, of course - Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Ancients, Warmaster and Blood Bowl being the main ones - but Warhammer is the one game all of us play and some of us are even quite good at it, competing in tournaments worldwide and doing rather well thank you.

Have a crack at us!

Can anyone join?

That's a tough one. If you just want to play wargames non-competitively every week, you're more than welcome to come along to the club and play, but if you want to be a Dragon Slayer and wear the coveted Dragon Slayer Shield that's something else entirely. You have to be competent in the games you play, over 18 (we do a lot of drinking, y'see), live within shouting distance of our regular club meet and willing to travel to and take part in tournaments all over the country, if not the world. If you fit the bill and think you're good enough to beat the best, you're welcome to try!
