Each player must select an army musician in exactly the same way as a battle-standard bearer normally available to his army, except that this does not count towards his points allowance. In effect, the army musician is free. An army musician must always be equipped with his instrument, which costs +25 points, and is considered to be a character in all respects.
An army musician may not take magic items. Additionally, he may not have equipment that is not normally available to a battle-standard bearer, such as shields.
Lizardmen may take a Saurus or Skink Hero as an army musician, but only mount or armour options may be taken.
The army musician adds +1 to all rally tests within 12”. This bonus is not cumulative with a unit’s own musician.
Any unit may re-roll failed rally tests within 18” of the army musician.
Units that may not normally rally — e.g., if their numbers are reduced to less than 25% of their original size — may test if they are within 12” of the army musician, but the army musician’s other bonuses do not apply.
Vampire Counts army musicians add +1 to all Invocation of Nehek rolls of summoning Zombies or Skeletons, as long as the unit raised or added to is within 12”. For example, a 7+ casting of the spell to create a new unit of Zombies will produce 2D6+3 rather than 2D6+2.
Khemri army musicians add 10 points to all models raised by Djerdre’s Summonation of the Vengeful Dead. The Banner of the Hidden Dead is not affected.
Daemon armies may take an Exalted Champion as their Army Musician but must add 25 points for the instrument. Again, only hand weapons are allowed.
