Dragon Slayer Scenarios

quick links

To make things a little more interesting - after all, pitched battle can get a bit staid after a while - we've held many tournaments that use scenarios. These scenarios are designed to add to games rather than dominate them, to provide a bit of a diversion from the norm, and some even test modelling skills!

Assassination

Your army has been joined by a noble steeped in methods of assassination and death. A mighty warrior in his own right, he can prove very useful to your army indeed!

Assassins count as characters for all purposes, but they may not lead units or be your army’s general, although they can join units as normal once they are revealed.

Their profile is as follows:

(profile)

Assassins are armed with a handweapon, but do not wear armour. They may be armed with an additional handweapon or a halberd, at no extra cost. All their attacks, regardless of weapon, count as poisoned. The Assassin may be on foot on a 20mm base or may ride a barded steed with the profile above. If he is on foot, the Assassin has a 5+ “dodge” armour save.

At the beginning of the game, secretly write down which of your units the Assassin is hiding in—you do not have to place the Assassin in the unit at the start of the game. The unit you use for this purpose must be ranked-up and may not be skirmishers, war machines or chariots. The Assassin may not join mounted units if he is on foot and vice versa, and must join a unit that has members roughly equal in size to himself. Remember that units must move at the pace of its slowest member.

If this unit is wiped out or flees off the table before the Assassin is revealed then he is lost and victory points are calculated as if he were dead.

Assassins may be revealed at the beginning of any of a players’ turns or at the start of any Close Combat phase. Players must declare that the unit contains an Assassin and places the model where he can fight, displacing a normal rank-and-file model. If there are no such models in a fighting rank, the Assassin is placed in another rank until there is enough room for him in the first rank.

Assassins always strike first in the round of hand-to-hand combat that they are revealed, even against chargers. If an enemy model is also entitled to always strike first, the model with higher Initiative strikes first (roll a D6 if they have equal Initiative). An Assassin’s attacks against enemy characters cause D3 wounds after saves.

The Assassin himself is worth 100 victory points, and the following extra victory points may be awarded in game three to each player:

vps given for +200 Character Killed: for each enemy character killed by the Assassin, including your opponent’s Assassin. -100 Useless: if the Assassin fails to kill anything, your general is most displeased!

Rules Quiz
why | scoring | sheet

We thought that, rather than an open book quiz on the background of Warhammer, we’d test your knowledge of the game itself.

The points given for the rules quiz will begin at zero points, and the maximum given is 3,000.

The problem with Sportsmanship

One of the biggest problems with sportsmanship scoring is “all fours” syndrome. To give a player the maximum sportsmanship score available each round is somewhat ludicrous—was every game you played literally the best you’ve ever had? Similarly, there are some unscupulous individuals who will mark all of his opponents low simply to harm their chances of a good placing. For this reason we’ve decided to do something to eradicate such scoring!

Players are only allowed to give one of his opponents a ‘Brilliant’ or ‘Bad’ score, but are not limited in the amount of other scoring types. Players who consistently give low scores will get a bit of a talking to!

Scoring Opponents

At the end of game five (rather than after each game), you will be given a score sheet upon which you must mark each of your opponents for sportsmanship. You must fill in your name and then rank each of your opponents according to the following guidelines:

Max Points:
Given for:
+600
Brilliant!
I had a fantastic time! My opponent was wonderful and showed great character and courtesy. We had no problems with rules whatsoever and it was one of the best games I’ve ever had!
+500
Good
I had a really good game and a great laugh against someone who knows what he’s doing. I’d play my opponent again without reservation!
+400
Okay
We had an average game, really — a few queries cropped up and it wasn’t great fun, but I’d play this person again.
+300
Fair
It was all right, I suppose. I’m not sure if I really enjoyed it, to be honest, and I probably wouldn’t like to play my opponent again.
+200
Bad
It was a very bad-tempered game and I really didn’t enjoy it at all. I wish I hadn’t played this person and don’t want to in the future.

Why a Rules Quiz?

Having attended a great number of tournaments around the world as well as running a few of our own, the Dragon Slayers realised that a lot of players simply don’t know the rules as well as they should. Worst of all, Umpires were being asked to adjudicate on basic rules that could be found in the rulebook easily! Therefore, what better to find out who does know the rules and who blags it than a rules quiz?

Rules Quiz Scoring

The Rules Quiz will take the format of thirty questions on various aspects of the Warhammer rules or background, each with four multiple choice answers. Each correct answer is worth a hundred points.

Quiz Sheet

The Rules Quiz will occur before game five and just after lunch on the Sunday, and each player will be given the Quiz Sheets upon which are thirty questions. Pens will be supplied if you don’t have one, but be prepared for a dirty look!

You must fill in your name and then answer each question in turn. You will have thirty minutes to complete the quiz and if you run out of time you must put your pen down immediately.

You are not allowed to look in the rulebook or any other publication for the answers. Anybody found doing so will not receive any Rules Quiz scores and may get a slap!
