Hellooooo Sports Fans!
It's summer time again and you all know what that means... the return of the Dragon Slayers Cup or, more properly, the Summer Blood Bowl League! With
Dave Grant, the head coach of defending Cup champions the Tree Hugging Hippies, having moved to a rougher league in Hull there is yet again everything to play for! However, not all the veterans have moved on, with last season's League winners The Icebreakers (coached by
Rob Lane) still about and looking to capitalise on their solid performances from last year. Other teams that will be in the mix comprise of some new coaches and some existing teams, including the return of the balding
Richard Paget who is running two teams this season - the Profits of Doom with a new starting line up and a new Elf team called The Lothern Longbows. Talk about a glutton! There's all your other favourites, too, including the Berstrom Bullets (coached by
Greg Chambers), the Quo-Quacktel Raiders (mauled by
Chris Legg), Leggy’s Leg Eaters (assisted by
Andrew Chesney), the Lothern Lions (run by
Pete Delafield) and the Averland Stags (er, cobbled together by
Paul Scrivens-Smith).
There are other coaches on the sidelines, waiting to be signed to a team before the summer deadline, too:
Matt Otter looks likely to be picked up (he wishes) by an Amazon team for the coming season and rumour has it that
Michael Biggs may be contesting this season's title too. With all these dynamic individuals involved in this year's struggle for the title it could get very exciting very quickly!
Stay tuned!

Lots of Blood Bowl results to get your teeth into here, even if most weeks have only one game to report. Still, keeps it ticking over, eh?

The opening game of the Dragon Slayers Cup kicked off with Xlanhaupec Forest and the Lothern Longbows contesting an eagerly awaited match, as testified by the 45,000 screaming Blood Bowl fans! The Longbows looked good early in the first half before a lone receiver was mugged by most of the Lizardman team, turning over the ball and driving down the field to score their first touchdown. A riot before the second period saw both teams' time reduced and Xlanhaupec Forest scored again before the Longbows managed to scramble a last minute touchdown. The elf thrower, Mr Longbow himself, managed a dodge and difficult pick up to throw the ball to a lurking receiver for a two-turn score. Join us again next week where the league looks set to really kick off!

Week two sees the competition getting lukewarm with just two games played. There were more scheduled, but a marathon three-hour game between The Icebreakers and The Lothern Longbows meant there was only time for two. The Icebreakers powered to a 2-1 win over the Lothern Longbows with the Elf team suffering at the hands of the Chaos team's newest addition Morgaak the Minotaur, and although there was opportunity for both teams to score in the dying minutes a plethora of ones from the Elven team left the score at 2-1. In the other game the rather sneaky Xlanhaupec Forest beat the Amazon All Stars 3-1, although it may well be said that the Lizardman team's slightly dubious tactic of fielding twelve players in the first half might have been to their advantage.

Hello Sports Fans! This week's review sees the league continuing at a steady pace with just the two games played thanks to both sets of coaches' leisurely pace. First off we had Xlanhauphec Forest dominating the Ice Breakers, racking up another big win of five touchdowns to nil (the Chaos team's Minotaur was somewhat ignominiously injured by a Skink, too) and it's looking like it's going to be very hard to stop the Lizardmen from running away with the title early on. Those Saurus are really proving worth their weight in rainbow jumpers! The second of our two games saw the Notlob Warriors take on The Lothern Longbows, a much closer game with the professional Elves of the latter team eventually coming out on top with four touchdowns to two. Mention must be made of the Notlob Warriors' blitzer, however, who intercepted a pass only to fall flat on his face trying to dodge out of an Elf tackle zone. This was also the biggest gate of the league so far with a massive 58,000 screaming fans turning up!

Two more games to review this week, both including The Icebreakers - the first, a closely-fought loss against the Notlob Warriors and the second a triumphant victory over an inexperienced newcomer to the league rather interestingly known as Adam's Gay Ogres & Goblins... yes, we have our first Ogre team on the books, and they are pretty scary! More games could have been had this week if the Notlob Warriors' coach didn't have to be in bed by 10:30pm, but thanks to an accommodating Xlanhaupec Forest the second half of their match will be finished next week, with the Lizardmen currently leading 2-1. Let's hope no mysterious poisonings occur in the meantime.

Another exciting week in the Summer Blood Bowl league as the number of games start to pick up! A first appearance for
Tim Fisher's Orcs and Goblins team (named The Executive Crew) against the strengthening Lothern Longbows of
Richard Paget saw a bruising performance from the greenskins, knocking out a number of Elf players on every drive but just lacking that killer instinct. The Elves didn't, however, with them racking up a huge five touchdowns, a feat only matched this season by Xlanhaupec Forest who this week finished the second half against the Notlob Warriors, the game ending up 4-2 to the Lizardmen. In the final game the Icebreakers trounced the other newcomer to the league,
Greg Chambers' Berstrom Bullets, by two touchdowns to nil. All in all, it could be said that the rookie coaches suffered this week, and it's to be hoped they'll come back for more in the near future!

Just the one game this week, with
Michael Biggs and his seemingly unstoppable Xlanhaupec Forest stopped by
Adam Hall's Gay Ogres & Goblins thanks to a myriad of silly dice rolls. It just goes to show, eh?

Hello again sports fans! Three more exciting matches this week with a new Lizardmen team taking to the field under the watchful eye of moral-free coach
Chris Legg. The Quo-Quacktel Raiders put up a good fight against the more experienced Lothern Longbows, with the Elf team taking an early lead which didn't last long as the Raiders really put the bite on either side of half-time. The monstrous Kroxigor caused untold damage to the Longbows' front line which led to the Raiders rampaging through to score two touchdowns, with the Longbows mangaing to score a second to snatch a draw. Our second game of the week looked a really brutal one with Xlanhaupec Forest stopped in their tracks again, this time by the very same brutal Kroxigor from game one. The Raiders really look to be getting into the swing of things, causing four casualties and Forest looked to have been beaten at their own game!
Our final game was Adam's Gay Ogres and Goblins against the Lothern Longbows and I can tell you this is a game the Longbows will want to avoid again in the future! Even thoguh they managed a four to one victory they took a real hammering on the pitch as the Ogre front line smacked Elves into the ground left, right and centre. It all looked pretty bad for the Elves but they managed to put together a really effective passing game to clinch them the win. The Ogres' only touchdown came from a Goblin flung downfield to land nimbly (well, for a Goblin) in the end zone!

This year's draw specialist
Chris Legg drew with runaway leader
Michael Biggs again this week, although the casualties went the other way this time. I don't know what this means in the grand scheme of things, but it seemed interesting to note. More next week!
